Prize winners prove they're the business THE stars of East Lancashire's business community were honoured at a gala presentation evening last night. More than 200 guests including business leaders and politicians gathered to honour the finalists in the 1996 Lancashire Evening Telegraph East Lancashire Business Awards at the Dunkenhaigh Hotel. Darwen-based success story Wolstenhoime Rink was revealed as the Company of the Year and collected a £2,000 first prize and trophy. Simon Jersey were runners-up and F H Brown highly commended in the category. In the Business person of the Year category, Steve Hollis of Cleveland Guest Engineering was first, Paul Whilney of Whitney Woods runner-up, and Tony Raynor of Abbey Telecom highly commended. Category The Small Business of the Year prize was won by. Lynx Engineering with BHR Clothing runners-up and Instant Search and MI Transmissions both highly commended. The Invention/Innovation of the Year Category was won by Europrint with Walter Holland & Sons runners-up. The Training Achievement of the Year category was won by Stella Maris Community Care with Simon Jersey runners-up and Blackburn College receiving a special commendation.
