"Telecoms change daily", warns IT chairman THE world of telecommunications "is changing daily - hourly even," warns Tony Raynor, the new chairman of the ELCCI Telematics Committee, "and I believe it to be imperative that local companies stay in touch." His own business is a telematics success story. Since it was formed three vears ago, Blackburn-based Abbey Telecom brought regional recognition by winning first prize in the 1995 Guardian Angels competition organised by Blackburn Partnership and sponsored by ELTEC. Rapidly-increasing turnover is another form of recognition: Abbey has reached more than £300,000 and is on target to reach £500.000 in a year's time. One of Abbey Telecom's strengths is its wide-ranging experience of supplying telephony systems to public and private sector bodies. Its client base includes local authorities in Blackburn, Chorley, Hyndburn, Rossendale and Wigan, and Abbey was also responsible for fitting a state-of-the-art system - the first of its kind in the UK - at the Blackbum Technology Management Centre.
